I have found that humor is an excellent and fun way to achieve stress relief. When we have a good laugh, we expel negative energy and allow oxygen into our bloodstream which in turn feeds every system our bodies are composed of by delivering freshly rejuvenated and energized blood to them including our brains. Laughter also causes our brain to release endorphins, a chemical that masks pain and causes pleasure, allowing us to obtain a natural high, if you will. It really is quite medicinal.

It is my hope that in sharing a personal embarrassing, yet humor filled incident with you, that you may find a little fun stress relief, and perhaps recall one of your own to help laugh your stress away!

This past summer, I was attacked by a tree frog! Yes, you did read correctly, an itty bitty tree frog. But I think the terrible storms that had passed through the night before gave it an electrical charge or something!

It all began first thing one morning after a restless night riddled with severe storms that caused me to wake often, toss and turn and experience a wild, naturally occurring strobe light exhibition. I climbed out of bed, stumbled down the hallway to the kitchen and poured myself a cup of coffee. I prepared it just the way I like it with the perfect blend of cream and sugar and groggily made my way over to the door-wall leading to the deck, merely wanting to enjoy my coffee in the early morning sun.

Still not quite awake yet, I pulled open the sliding glass door when something caught my eye. I blinked several times trying to focus, looked down on the floor and saw that a cute little tree frog had just hopped in and was sitting on the ceramic tile looking up at me with seemingly innocent eyes. Now, please understand that I absolutely adore little froggies and have since I was a little girl; I used to catch them all of the time!

Anyway, I sat my coffee cup on the kitchen counter and proceeded to bend down to scoop the little thing up, but it started hopping all around like crazy! I chased it around a little as it kept narrowly escaping capture.

Aha! Now it was under the dining room chair, in the corner, up against the wall…it was trapped and it was all mine! I bent down low to catch it and just as I almost made contact, it opened its mouth much further than what should have been possible; I mean its face disappeared behind its mouth!

Then it happened! It scared the living day lights out of me for it literally screamed at me! It sounded very much like a rabbit screams when it becomes prey to a cat or a fox in the wild. It was loud, shrill and totally unexpected! I mean a screaming tree frog? Come on! Who ever heard of that? I jumped straight up and backwards, then screamed myself (one good turn deserves another, right?) as it began jumping again.

Now, I was seriously afraid of a little tree frog measuring an inch and half in length! I certainly did not want to touch the thing, but still needed to get it out of my kitchen and back outside. So I started to stomp my foot behind it trying to steer it towards the still open sliding glass door. Then suddenly it turned and jumped right at me. It hopped up onto my leg and clung there with its suction cupped toes adhering it to my shin!

The tree frog then began to slowly climb up my leg further! I’m totally freaking out now as it steadily continues its upward ascent! But despite my hysteria, I was able to notice that the door was still open, so I jumped as far as I could in one smooth motion, right out onto the deck. I then flicked the creepy little thing off of my leg. I turned and bolted into the house and promptly slid the door closed behind me.

When the little beast had jumped away, I then proceeded to enjoy my coffee on the deck, soaking up the glorious rays of the morning sun, but I was continuously scanning the deck with eagle eyes, ever on the lookout for that dastardly attack tree frog.

I sincerely hope that this happens all of the time; I certainly don’t want to think that electricity from major lightening strikes causes amphibians to become mutant maniacs! I’m able to laugh about it now, but as it was happening, I was almost to the point of suffering a panic attack!

Although sharing hilarious stories of humorous events that have taken place in my own life is still one of my favorite fun secrets of stress relief, watching a humorous movie, a comedy show, reading a joke book or the comics in the Sunday paper, and getting together with friends to share jokes with one another are some other choices available to you to allow that laughter to flow.

Humor really is a fun way to achieve stress relief and it’s truly quite simple to find a way of allowing humor to chase stress away. So go ahead and laugh your way to fun stress relief by having the last laugh at yourself! Recall a funny incident in your life and share it with loved ones or friends the next time stress tries to take the fun out of your life!

Using mind imagery for stress relief is a highly effective method for calming our whole being and achieving stress relief. Since we simply cannot avoid being bitten by the stress bug, we may as well take control of its nasty effects and achieve soothing stress relief using mind imagery.

In our extremely busy world that we live in, encountering stress is inevitable, but not uncontrollable. When you feel the tensions of the day have taken over your whole being, the muscles of your body feel as though they’re all in knots, when you don’t want to talk to or even be around your loved ones, let alone anyone else, when your whole being is fatigued, you know that you’ve been bitten by the stress bug!

The effects of that bite have left you with a tinge of a headache threatening and warning you that if you do not get stress relief soon, you’re going to be suffering from a major, full blown, red alert throbbing headache. It’s time to take a stress break and bask in the total relaxation that only stress relief can bring. One very effective method that is highly successful in calming our whole being is using mind imagery to allow the day’s stress build up to flow right out of our bodies and tranquilize our mind.

One area of relaxation is in nature. Nature does wonders as a calming resource. Just becoming part of of a majestic natural scene for awhile can give you the serene sense of belonging to a much wider universe beyond the piques of everyday stress. Let’s utilize our mind imagery now. My favorite place in nature is on a warm tropical beach of paradise and solitude. Stay with me as I walk you through a mind relaxation exercise in my natural paradise.

Feel the ecstasy of lying on the sun kissed sand of a white colored seashore upon a comfortable fluffy beach towel, the sand molded to your body as a down filled pillow molds to your head. Just feel the sun lightly dancing along your body as it does its pirouette, warming you from the outside in.

Putting a smile on your relaxed face as you have your eyes closed and ears open, listening to the surf rolling towards and gently colliding into the shore in a rhythm that you have down pat in your memory, hearing the birds as they make their way around the beautiful beach, some flying and singing overhead, others running back and forth and to and fro with a light pitter patter of footsteps in the same rhythm as the waves of the tide.

Feel the gentle tropical breeze caress your body, sometimes from side to side, other times from toe to head, picking up a few strands of your sun lightened hair and doing an elegant waltz with them which lightly tickles the the relaxed muscles of your cheek, then moves along to search out another dance partner such as a sun baked portion of seaweed resting on the sand, awaiting its arrival.

Feel every muscle of your body release any lingering tension, flowing out through your fingers and toes with delightful warmth and peace. Feel the moment; memorize the sensations of your relaxing and calming trip along the shores of tropical stress relief. Ahhh, what a wonderful feeling!

Think of your most favorite place to be in nature whether it be on a snow capped mountain with tall evergreen trees with pristine snow covered branches surrounding you, or up in the branches of a several hundred year old sturdy oak tree over looking a myriad of wild flowers speckling a meadow.

Once you’ve chosen your spot, let your imagination carry you along the route of peace and serenity by taking in every glorious detail, and melting the stress away the next time you’ve been bitten by the stress bug and crave stress relief!
